Childhood Nasal Obstruction & Breathing Issues
Management of Nasal Symptoms
The evaluation of nasal symptoms in children includes consideration of anatomic, developmental and allergic factors. Nasal obstruction can impact dental development, sleep efficiency, learning and attention issues. Sleep-disordered breathing in children is often driven more by inadequate nasal airflow than oral cavity obstruction.
Narrowing of the nasal passageways at the back of the nose, enlargement of the adenoids, and swelling of nasal structures such as the turbinates are examples of anatomy issues that mimic symptoms of allergy. Children who do not respond to appropriate first line medical management of their nasal obstruction are often times suffering from an anatomical problem in one of these areas.
Yampa Valley Medical Center Ears, Nose and Throat Clinic in Steamboat Springs is unique in its management of nasal symptoms in children.
Adenoidectomy, turbinate reduction nasal endoscopy, polyp removal as well as allergy diagnosis and treatment are all part of the spectrum of treatment at Yampa Valley Medical Center Ears, Nose and Throat Clinic. We have a kid-friendly environment. Many of our pediatric patients undergoing brief outpatient surgical and diagnostic procedures can have these allergy diagnostics done while they are sedated.
